Dear Volleyball, I remember the first day I played with you and you made my arms bruised for days. It took months of practice (with the VolleyLite) before my arms got used to you. I knew back in the 6th grade that you and I had a future together. Not even two years after that I realized a dream and committed to Nebraska. I got lucky to grow up in a state where you are idolized by so many, including me. You brought me full circle as I started my playing days in the middle, only to be moved around to the outside, the right side and eventually @johncook_2 persuaded me to go back to the middle. He knew what he was doing as he’s had more experience with you than me. We won a National Championship in front of the state that adores you. You brought me to various countries in Europe to play professionally, but you also got me to cross off some things on my bucket list. I got to visit London, the Eiffel Tower, Auschwitz, live in Italy and see many other places around the world. As much as I loved everything and everyone that you brought me, you also made me realize just what’s important in life. It’s your family and the people you surround yourself with. I know you will always be there for me to catch up any day, but for now, I will cheering for you from afar. I loved every second of getting to know you more and more, and can’t wait to continue to do so as a spectator. Excited to see where you will go as I venture on in my own journey of life. Love, Amber #5 ❤️

Dear Volleyball, Back in the day we used to beg our mom every day to let us play with you. After years, she gave in. You allowed me to experience the inside of an airplane for the first time while traveling to a tournament in Miami. You made me realize that although I HATE flying, I would rather fly than drive 10 hours just for one game. You frustrated me sometimes knowing that we had to drive an hour to practice knowing we wouldn’t get home until 10:00pm but still had homework to do and a 6:00am wake-up call. You brought me to @huskervolleyball where I got to live out a dream of winning a National Championship. You gave me the opportunity to travel to countries in nearly every corner of the world. (There really is No Place Like Nebraska!) I got to be surrounded by people from various cultures, races and backgrounds. You made me realize just how small the world really is. You brought me so much joy day in and day out. You also brought heartache knowing that I was thousands of miles away from home, family and missing Christmas and Easter for years in a row. As much as I enjoyed you, I also know that there is so much more this world has to offer. You will always be there, from pickup games to helping a young player reach their potential. You gave me an incredible four year professional career on top of the years in club and college. As much as it pains me to say goodbye to you, I know that I still have a heart for you, but not as a player. I can’t wait to see you grow from the outside and one day be a part of someone’s journey of falling in love with you just like I did. Here’s to seeing you in a rec gym (or sand court) in the near future. Love, Kadie #6
